For artifact 1, I chose to create a virtual 360 degree view of a 3d designed room. As for my PRP I had researched virtual reality and interactive media on 3D visualisation, and therefore did further research for softwares that provide these types of simulations. Using a software called 'Object2VR', that combines a sequence of flat images and generates a 360 panoramic view for the user to look around with. After creating the virtual view, Roma was pleased about how it worked and the fact that the simulation was interactive. However it didn't need other people to tell that it was lacking in depth, and therefore I need to develop it further in which Im hoping to do in my second artifact by creating a number of 3d scenes and linking them through buttons. Artifact 1 only allowed users to view the room along the x axis as if it were cylindrical, and therefore for my 2nd artifacts I intend to create a spherical panorama, in which Roma had told me could be achieved by using 3dMAx, and apply it into virtual tour softwares for a complete experience.

First of all this website is a great source of news from the entertainment part of the world. With live feeds from games, movies, music and many others. I really like the layout because it provides the user with some interaction with the website, such as the rotatable slides to look through the different news that is usually updated daily.

This Website is also great as it sponsors many other websites that are important. Also once you have clicked on a link, it provides you with a list on the left side which

www.123klan.com is an excellent website that truely shows the persons work. Throughout the whole website, its designed to represent the owner, a grafitti artists with influences from old school hip hop. I like the way this website connects all together and the way it shows the true identity of its owner.

Research is such a powerful tool if your able to apply it correctly. Researching specifically (Interim) or whether its exploring (Exploratory) can take you to different places as depth is an important part for applying research as well a broadened knowledge. If was to choose one starting point that I felt i was more drawn to it would have to be 'in front of' as its what the viewers collect from what you have shown them in which i believe is an extremely important part of research as you can receive feedback from the work done. This allows for specific tweaking which initially improves the work solidly. I feel weary of 'in/through' as for me i find it hard sometimes to visualize someone else's work and how it all came together, as it was their own creativity that brought all their work together to create the final product and for me, the only person who can understand their work truly is the creator. 'For' research would be my choice if i was to pick a type of reseach that I feel is irrelevant. This is due to 'For' research being what else is happening in other disciplines, and therefore being less valuable information as the work being researched should be the main focus, however the 'For' research still plays an important role.

For the past couple of years, since i can remember drawing in my art classes in high school, i've always allowed my creativity to explode on paper. I've always enjoyed brainstorming by sketching, as it really disables all barriers to what the mind wants to create. But as i look back, i've realised that throughout my years at school, i've only used my creativity when needed, for a project or when i was told to do so. Who has it been for? When i've thought about my life during school and A levels I realised that my creativity was for the purpose of my work, to achieve the highest possible grade. However since the start of university i've applied my creativity for both myself and my work. My future? Im hoping to apply my creativity towards animation as thats where i hope i find myself in the future, but also i'd like to apply it to my own hobbies such as graphic design and sketching.

7 Pounds...?

I just watched the highly anticipated movie produced by Will Smith called 7 Pounds. I have to admit that I was extremely glued into the movie from the beginning to the end although there were some downfalls. 7 pound's actual story line is excellent with a great deal of mystery and confusion from the beginning to the end, which got me glued into trying to figure out his actual occupation and intentions. Some bits in the movie really portrayed extreme situations, filled with anger, love and also passion. I found out, however after the second time that i had watched it, some of the faults that really bring the movie down. To start off with, the movie is way too long. It carry's on for a long time with no answers despite the fact that it is all explained in the end, which I thought really brings down the quality of this movie. Everyone that I have watched it with enjoyed the movie, but just felt it carried on a bit more then it should have. Also I didn't really understand why he had committed suicide using a jellyfish. Surely the shockwaves of the jellyfish could cause some harm to internal organs which defeats the whole purpose of the movie. Although overall, I thought the movie was great and I really enjoyed it, and I would suggest the movie to anyone to watch atleast once, and at most once.

My first animation ever. Using 3D max, we've just started to create 3d animation clips. I've found out that even though 3D max may look complicated, it's sole base of being a animation program it's actually quite simple. However it still maintains it power for editing, controlling, lighting, etc... Below shown is the short clip I have created with my name bouncing and a ball flying around. This was just to learn the basis of 3D max and its capabilities. However with further experience I am hoping to create many more animations to a higher standard with the help of the tutorials from both 3D max and www.youtube.com.

Recently i've been interested in learning how to create my own 3d figure model. Im using a program named Poser 7 which is a good program for beginners to 3d figure design such as myself. It has many functions and capabilities in creating your own character, such as different skins, a variety of body figures, body positioning and many other options, that go into very specific detail. Soon enough I should have my 1st 3d figure model completed in a movie, hopefully by the end of this week.

Graphic design has always been one of my favourite types of media and its only recently that i've really started working with the program and trying to understand its capabilities. I wanted my one shot film to have a dark atmosphere to it. Also the complete focus on the door creates a sort of horror or tension. I wanted to create a shot from an objective view from the video recorder, to get a large view of the scene.

Artist Research : The use of Colours

I have decided to write my research on an artist known as Richard Kenton Webb. His artwork is shown on the right and his use of colours in this painting gives it complete definition. Although it could confuse many about its true meaning. When a person looks at a painting like this, they create their own image from it, and thus a cause of the colouring and light used by the artist. His use of whites along the ridges of the background creates a shiny surface as if water was flowing down rocks. is use of toned greys and light blues also helps emphasize the gloss of the water. However the main focus throughout the whole painting is the tint of blue in every seperate colour. This creates a blue enviroment, hence water being known to be blue, although its actually transparent. The darker shades of brown at the bottom of the painting show pure earth, that is being eroded by each flow of water colliding with it, as the different tones represent different surfaces.

In last weeks seminar we had to cut shots from a small scene from a movie and to make it as effective as possible as if they were having an argument. Using Adobe Premiere we had to cut the film to make it effective as possible however in our own way. The video shown is my final piece.

So far my group and I have decided on a rough plan of venues, genres, themes and times to shoot the film. We have roughly decided on creating a video on a poker game between students in which the atmosphere is fun, easy going, and comical. So far we have a basic script consisting of a comical side as well as a story within the game. We were hoping to shoot the film with a constant pan moving around the table as they play poker, with all the lights shut off except the light above the table to give it a serious poker game feeling to it even though its hidden behind a comical theme. However the way we have decided to create it would allow each individual to edit the video specifically they way they want it. We have found it difficult to come out with a final script to the video, as well as the final lighting and positioning. However after a couple more meetings this shall be complete and the scene should be ready for shooting.

The Power Of Colours

Colours are an extremely powerful tool. In the world today, colours have symbolic meanings, especially in clothing. In America, colours separate people in gangs such as Red known as the colour of the Bloods and Blue known as the colour of the cryps. Colours can also be used to describe a movie, picture or even a painting. A good example of this would be Sin City in which colours play the main role in describing each character and the situation occurring. I've chosen red in this picture as it can symbolize evil even though the facial expressions are soft.

In this other picture i have used blue and brown, as blue creates a sense of purity and calmness, and brown to alter the hair colour.

The Rule Of Thirds

The rule of thirds states that an image can be divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines. The four points formed by the intersections of these lines can be used to align features in a photographRule of Thirds also brings energy and complete composition to a photo and is one of the first lessons a photographer learns. I've taken a small video using the rule of thirds and how it can be used to convey different perspectives. As you can see in the video, in the first few seconds the sky is the main the focus as it is within two thirds of the shot. However the last few seconds the floor becomes the main focus as its within the bottom two thirds of the shot. This is just a basic video vaguely using the rule of thirds.

Why is it that we want our belongings to do more for us then to function well?

Back in time people used to appreciate products functioning well rather then having different abilities. This is mainly because of the lack of technology and technological depth, as nowadays people appreciate the more abilities that a product has rather than it's functioning strength. As people live very busy lives, they require products to have more functions and capabilities for both leisure and working parts of their life.

Why are we willing, as soon as we can afford it, to pay extra for things with appealing forms?

When a person looks into a shop and sees something they like, it becomes appealing to them because it is quite expensive, and therefore should have extra benefits then an product that is relatively cheap. This product could be a shoe (that is specifically built for a certain environment), or a mobile phone (that has an MP3 player and video games), or even furniture (Ivory, Mahogany, Teak). Laptops are a huge market consisting of heavy competition, with the likes of HP, Apple, Acer, Sony and Dell. Apple are making huge investments into recent products such as the Macbook, and the Macbook Pro as their new functions and appealing forms are increasing the sales for Apple. This is the reason why we pay extra for things with appealing forms once we can afford it, as everyone wants the latest technology because its cool for kids in high-school and important for the working people.

iPhone 3G...wow...

The new iPhone created by apple has been a widely anticipated product, waiting to be bought throughout the whole world. This is mainly due to its new features of touchscreen and the trouble-free control system over its uses and abilities. I own a Nokia myself although with the new specs of the iPhone 3G, I'm now contemplating on my next choice of phone between the iPhone or Nokia. This is a basic example of what this new technology will bring to societies around the world. By creating a completely new product with new features that other phones do not acquire, such as complete control over the screen and its applications by the use of touchscreen, the ability to zoom while surfing the web, as well as a 16GB memory. However it does contain features that many other phones have today, such as being an MP3 player, Camera and a console, however what separates the iPhone from the others is the quality of the programs used within the phone, such as iTunes which was a huge success, and for that matter still is.

Therefore the new iPhone creates a whole new zone of competition, which will have a direct impact on societies from the economic side, to the consumer sections. Economically its could affect the prices in stocks and shares within the Apple company depending on its total success. It also forces the other mobile phone manufacturers to create an even better system for people to use, as nowadays communication has become an essential factor in all sectors of commerce as well as social communities. If tested by a company management group, and the final results were positive, they may even give one to each of their employees to ensure complete communication throughout the group, due to everyone having a similar phone and therefore improving communications for the features that only the iPhone can provide.

Thus it can be seen that the smallest of products can have such a dramatic effect on different societies depending on their success, in which I'm sure the iPhone from Apple will live up to it's name.

Multimedia is the first subject that i've looked forward to starting. I want to gain the benefits and the skills that are developed throughout the years of this course mainly in the areas of animation and audio production. I'm a very musical person and i hope to develop my music skills in recording and production further while becoming an animator. I also plan to gain complete independance in my work and to shift and shape my final pieces to express my creative ideas.
